A theoretical model has been developed to describe self-deflagration rates as a function of pressure and initial sample temperature, of mono-propellants and has been applied to ammonium perchlorate (AP). The model includes variable specific heats and conductivity, parallel reactions and the criterion of simultaneous satisfaction of three conditions at the end of the reaction zone: (1) attainment of flame temperature, (') completion of reactions, and (3) zero temperature gradient. The model predicts not only the pressure and temperature sensitivity of deflagration rates, but it also calculates surface temperature, contributions from condensed and gas phase reactions, and flame stand-off distances. Results from this model are compared with those of Beckstead-Derr-Price, Guirao-Williams, and Manelis-Strunin. (DePo)
