Due to its characteristics, the rigid frame truck can operate in high-speed freight trains without undue stress on track or lading. This type of truck has been standard in Europe since 1960 and has proved satisfactory in service. However, certain fatigue defects appeared in the chassis, leading to its redesign in 1974. The paper describes the failures and solutions devised. The final testing of the truck in the laboratory and in service are reviewed in detail. (Peters)
