Fatigue testing of a full-scale prototype of a field gun carriage using a vectored load application principle. The desirability and economics of this type of testing are reviewed from the designers' and users' viewpoint. The test method is described from its beginnings of simple constant-amplitude input to the most recent multichannel service loading input. The methods of data acquisition, master control tape production and its relation to service conditions are also described. Some experiments on the relationship between the response of the structure under test and that under actual field conditions have been conducted and are briefly discussed. The usefulness of the technique and its cost effectiveness are indicated by some relevant figures. (Biller)
