Concerning the strength designing of the components of combustion chamber in marine diesel engines and the reliability evaluation methods for them, many investigations have been carried out in concerned fields for about ten years. We have been also executed some investigations about this subject. We mentioned, in this paper, our view points for now required strength designing method for these components through some examples of the solution of the strength problems on the water-cooled cast-steel components in the former KSZ type larger-bore engines by MAN's aid and mutual cooperation. We described, also, one example of the reliability evaluation method which had been established through the above mentioned investigations and of which availability has been, we considered, proved by the running results. Further, The application results of this method to the newly developed KSZ-B/BL type design were mentioned.(Wassmann)
