Instability in an unstable fluid layer underneath a stable fluid layer under the influence of rotation is studied numerically as an initial boundary value problem. The model problem is the ice-water problem with maximum density at 4 C. The detailed development of two types of finite amplitude instability is identified and studied: one is similar to Benard convection and the other is closely related to centrifugal instability.
