Dynamic response of tall offshore structures to random waves and steady currents is examined. Hydrodynamic forces acting on the structures are computed according to Morison's formula. Analysis is based on small amplitude wave theory. The Pierson-Moskowitz wave height spectrum is used for the random waves. The structures are idealized as lumped mass systems for dynamic analysis purpose. Effects of fluid-structure interactions are considered and the nonlinear stochastic differential equations of structural response are solved by the equivalent linearization technique together with the classical method of normal mode superposition. Wave-current interactions may change wave characteristics. Their effects on structural response are also included. A computer program is developed to calculate response statistics of four offshore towers, with heights of 475, 675, 875 and 1075 feet, under different wind and current conditions. Results indicate that current in general tends to increase the peak responses of offshore structures.
