Fluid drives are often used to limit both the noise and the speed of automobile fans. The design of these units is difficult because of the high temperature at which they operate. An experimental investigation was made into the operation of one type of fluid drive, and it was found that the existing theory when modified could be used to predict system performance. The fluid drive tested was found to have certain characteristics and these were used to predict system performance. This could be applied to drives with different geometric configurations, even though this introduced further non-linearities.
