Gas turbine meters have been accepted by the gas industry as high accuracy measurement devices in all phases of natural gas operations. Generally, gas meters are installed at locations where steady flow exists and the load changes are relatively slow. There are some installation locations where steady flow conditions do not exist and it is desirable to determine if the turbine meter will perform accurately or have significant metering errors. The study of pulsating flow effects of gas measurement devices has been carried out over many years. The results of these studies show varying degrees of confidence in predicting the accuracy of a flow meter in pulsating flow. The limited work on turbine meters did not yield definite conclusions as to the degree of meters accuracy or the limitation of the theory for prediction of turbine meter error for a given pulsating flow condition. Generally, it has been practice to eliminate pulsation at metering installations, however, there is little information to indicate the actual effects of these efforts on metering accuracy.
