Toshiba has recently supplied substation and telecontrol systems for the Beijing-Qinhuangdao electrification project of the Chinese Ministry of Railways. This project adopted the autotransformer feeding system (AT system) for the first time in China by reason of its superior technical features such as long-span, no-section feeding and fewer substations. The substation system was designed taking into account three-phase imbalance reduction, easy maintenance, and backup facilities in order to continue normal operation in case of an equipment failure. Toshiba adopted a polling-type microprocessor-based telecontrol system for easy future expansion and fewer transmission lines, and CRT display units with light-pens for simple man-machine interfacing.
