The system centers around an interconnect device manufactured by Interconnect Technology Corporation, which is installed at Ozark's remote VHF radio stations around the country. All of the remotes are then connected through the telephone lines to Ozark's Flight Control Center in St. Louis, Missouri, to complete the 'network' for communications. Cost-effectiveness began with the usage of existing VHF remote equipment and the termination of commercial leased lines. In order to meet further cost-effectiveness, the system had to be developed without the necessity of aircraft equipment modification. This meant that conventional DTMF signaling needed to be bypassed by an alternative method.
