Describes the development of the E2200 series autopilot design with split axis' computing to ease maintenance cost and fault diagnosis, to provide closer association between control in each axis and its self-monitoring and to give better fault isolation between axes on final approach. The accuracy of glide slope and localiser control was improved such that an automatic flare computer could be added for automatic landing. The basic E2000 components included the pitch and azimuth amplifiers dealing with the elevator and with the aileron and rudder channels respectively; the torque limiter adapter; three axis trim indicator and rate transmitter; glide scope annunciator; and an Elliott air data sensor.
