For general radio communications in medium- and short-wave bands, and for SSB Duplex communications in the shortwave band, the antenna elements are accommodated in, or suspended around, a ship's mast made of FRP insulating material. Both electrical and mechanical properties withstand operation aboard ship with sufficient margin under the force of a gale reaching 60 m/sec. The short-wave antenna, for exclusive use in SSB Duplex communications, is of resonance type, and its input can be fed through a coaxial cable without a matching circuit from 8 to 22 MHz. This paper outlines the design considerations and test results.
