Some trucks and vehicles can only at present be powered by I.C. engines. eg. High speed/long range road vehicles; fork lift trucks above 5 tonnes capacity; rough terrain trucks. Many are more economically powered from a battery. eg. Urban traffic compatible delivery vehicles; many vehicles used on Airports; trucks used in food and other distributive industries. The cost of a lead-acid traction battery is related to its size and its life: kilowatt-hour-years. The cost to recharge the battery must also be considered. This can be dramatically effected by: (i) The type charger; balancing cost against savings. (ii) The overall efficiency and power factor. (iii) The tariff of payment for supply of electricity.
