To solve the complex problem of constructing an economical, high-quality frequency-controlled asynchronous traction drive with asynchronous squirrel-cage motor (AM) and independent voltage inverter (IVI) using pulse-width modulation (PWM) it is important to make a rational choice of switching algorithms (SA) for the frequency converter. It is therefore necessary to develop simple techniques for shaping the IVI output voltage that combines simplicity of realization of conventional pulse-width regulation with the advantages of sinusoidal PWM, realized on the basis of single-channel structure control systems. We shall henceforth take the property of having single-channel structure to mean the presence of a single unit for regulation of the duty cycle. The algorithm synthesized is characterized by proportional regulation of all average voltages on each approximation intervall. The combinatorial-type switching algorithms synthesized for the inverter at low output frequencies ensure improved quality of output voltage as compared with PWR based on a rectangular law, and with the introduction of additional intercommutation intervals of duration equal to the regulated pulse-width regulation intervals, the constant size of the minimum intercommutation interval on a half-period is preserved.
