Table Top Tester (T3) benefits can be achieved to significantly reduce floor space, cargo weight, costs, and support. Congressional pressure on the Department of Defence (DOD) to reduce costs, mandates the use of existing state-of-the-art hardware and software to reduce support costs for major weapon systems. Microtechnology exists today that can be designed to perform 85 % to 90 % of the testing requirements in the electrical/electronic systems acquired by the Armed Services. Also, these designs can be used to achieve tremendous reductions in the following: Cargo Cubage - up to 75 %; Cargo Weight - up to 97 %; Personnel Requirements - up to 65 %; Training - up to 87 %; Spares - up to 91 %; Support Equipment - up to 92 %. Now is the time to change Automatic Test System (ATS) designs to the reduced design concept and derive the same benefits that have been gained from microminiturization of avionic systems in weapons systems. Reducing resources in support equipment can be translated into more resources in combat hardware, software, and personnel.
