The seeker is the brain of a missile: it guides the missile towards its target. For the air-to-air missiles, two classes of seekers can be distinguished: the active or semi-active systems (electromagnetical or lasers); the passive systems (infrared or television). SAT has been specialized for a long time in the infrared passive systems, that can hardly be jammed and that are well suited for the detection of a jets of hot gases (CO2) and that consequently offers considerable advantages. For a few years, thanks to the improvements achieved in the field of infrared bi-dimensional sensors, as well in France (SAT and LETI/LIR) as abroad, it now seems possible to design new generation seekers using imagery as data support and involving specific signal processing algorithms.
