The dynamic interaction between the single-sided linear induction motor (SLIM) for propulsion and the electromagnets for suspension is analyzed by means of the relative position sensitivity and the root-locus and evaluated by the experimental data of HSST-03 maglev system as an example. The trade-off relation between the normal force and the thrust force is evaluated by the supplied energy. This evaluation shows that the low slip frequency operation is superior to the high slip frequency operation in total energy efficiency. The influence of suspension on propulsion and the influence of suspension on propulsion are analyzed, and the values of the relative position sensitivity are evaluated by root-locus method. Then the neglect of the mutual interaction is introduced and this result is confirmed by the experimental data. Therefore, the low slip frequency operation is possible and then the about 30 % total energy can be reduced.
