A stressed environment for an operator can be caused by numerous conditions such as temperature, protective clothing, and pretreatment drugs administered within a chemical warfare environment. The presented approach utilizes a generalized methodology for measuring the effects of the stressor on operator performance and for incorporating the effects into a digital simulation of the man/machine system. The digital simulation can then be used to evaluate system performance as a function of the stressed environment as well as other system parameters. The goal of this approach is to provide a methodology for including the effects of the operator's environment into preliminary system design in an efficient manner without requiring the availability of the actual system.
