In the Royal Navy induction training of new personnel is undertaken at shore establishments. Where complex simulation is required as part of this course it may be conveniently provided by a fixed trainer installation. When the course is complete the trainees will leave the shore establishment with a good degree of equipment familiarity and skill in both their specialisation and team work. On joining the ship these skills need to be maintained and preferably improved. This may prove difficult, particularly with sensor operator training where contacts with targets of the correct type for training may be infrequent and unpredictable. Thus a requirement exists to provide continuity training on-board ship in operator skills and equipment familiarity, together with team and sub-team training. It is this problem which is addressed by the training system to be described.
