Implementations and tests of several initial variants of brake energy recovery systems for buses have led to a synthetising modular system. A hydromechanical transmission developed for this scope provides alone up to 10 % fuel saving. If connected to hydraulic pressure tanks or to a flywheel (thus resulting in the Hydrobus or the Gyrobus) the fuel saving increases to 30 %. Other advantages of this system are less emissions, less noise and lower life cycle costs.
