Modern automobiles are characterized by luxury, low gas consumption and high preformance as well as notable safety measures. All these characteristics are prerequisites for safe and relaxed driving. However, in day-to-day driving, the motorist is often confronted with problems which cannot be solved by the automotive technology in use today. Orientation problems are meant here. Such problems in the extensive street labyrinths of large cities and densly populated areas often cause erroneous behavior, thus creating dangerous situations in traffic. These orientation problems are expressed in the following questions: Where am I? In which direction is my destination point? How far away am I from my destination point? In which direction must I go at the next crossing in order to reach my destination point by the shortest route?
