The Honeywell Laser Gyro Strapdown Inertial Reference/Navigation System used on the Boeing 757/767/737-300 airplanes and in a slightly modified form on the Aerospatiale A.310 aircraft is described. The system uses three ring laser gyros, three current rebalance accelerometers, and three microprocessors to perform all attitude, world wide, strapdown inertial navigation. This implementation using state-of-the-art unheated components provides fast alignment, accurate navigation, and reliable operation at low cost to the airlines. The system integrates all of the inertial sensors on the airplane, eliminating duplication on previous aircraft, and provides body-referenced angular rates and linear accelerations, attitude, heading, velocity, position, and various calculated track-related parameters for the pri mary flight instruments and the flight management system. The inertial sensor initial calibration and in-service automatic calibration techniques used to provide long-term accuracy and sensor replacement without calibration are described.
