Computer controlled test beds have been used for spark ignition engine research at Nottingham University for several years. Both steady state and transient engine performance have been of interest. The latter, particularly, poses the major difficulty of developing a rig control and data acquisition system to meet test specifications. In the following, the main functions and structure of the system are described. Results illustrating the utility of the rig will be presented.
