The contribution deals with discussing the conditions that microwave imaging systems for traffic applications have to fulfil. Regarding moving objects the most important requirement of movement recognition and multiple target capability leads to very short times tolerable for collecting and processing the backscattered signals. High resolution with moderate aperture size requires short wavelength utilization. Hence, fast millimeter wave system should be a solution. Experimental results from a 70 GHz-imaging system are presented.
