Electronic Displays for general application usage are evolving at a rapid rate of improvement to compete with and overtake more traditional displays. Electronic Display applications range from those in simple panel meters to Personal Computers. The subject of this paper deals with the requirements of display technologies that could be used on Heavy Vehicle applications such as Agricultural Tractors and Over Highway Heavy Trucks. Consideration is given to human factors and special environmental factors that must be taken into account with displays in these applications. The paper highlights general strengths and weaknesses of each technology as well as summarizing the various properties of popular display methods. Projections of what trends may follow in obtaining the ideal electronic display method for Heavy Vehicle Applications are also discussed.
