The focus of this paper, automating the power subsystems of satellites, represents one of the more complexe and challenging tasks in achieving future autonomy goals. Recent studies have determined that our current satellites cannot survive for extended periods of time without the aid of ground support. Future survivable spacecraft will be required to perform their own support by utilizing a distributed processing architecture where smart subsystems interact with the centralized spacecraft computer.
