During 1983 improvement schemes were carried out at two existing signalled junctions in West Bridgford to provide extensive pedestrian signalling, reduce accidents, and give much reduced traffic and pedestrian delays. In both cases peak hour cycle times were reduced from 120 to 60 seconds, in line with nearly all other UTC controlled signals in Nottinghamshire. At the first junction, on the south side of Trent Bridge, 9 traffic phases and 9 pedestrian phases were implemented with a solid state controller and closely associated pelican crossing. At the second junction, Loughborough Road and Wilford Lane, the previous 9 phase solid state controller was replaced by a 13 phase microprocessor controller and this application is described below.
