RFI/EMI signals can cause major problems and degradations in shipboard fire control systems. Two RFI control systems have been described that will reduce interference to negligible levels. One method of interference control permits two HR-76 radars to be operated on the same ship with no degradation in detection or tracking performance when the radars are synchronized. When the radars cannot be synchronized, a random PRF is used. In this case, there is a slight loss in detection and tracking performance, but the loss is so small that it is not detectable. Because the two radars can operate well in the random PRF mode, it is obvious that the HR-76 radar will also work well if there is another ship nearby with an HR-76 radar, as long as one or both are switched to a random PRF mode. A second method of interference control uses a completely automatic jam avoidance mode that assures that each radar is always operated on a clear radio frequency.
