Interest in electric vehicle development and use in the U.S. has correlated well with current energy concerns and both the cost and availability of gasoline. Introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) into the automotive market has been spear-headed by commercial vehicles rather than personal cars. One main reason for this is because businesses can take advantage of the life-cycle costs of the vehicle. Light commercial electric vehicles are well-suited for a variety of applications and offer distinct advantages over their internal combustion counterparts. Discussed here are many private and government electric vehicle demonstration programs - summarizing the activities of the fleet operators, showing their findings, and presenting their life-cycle costs for the vehicles or operating costs.
