In the discussion of the TV-SAT/TDF1 Attitude and Orbit Control System the attempt has been made to characterize the control concepts applied to meet the operational requirements. The body stabilization principles in the various manoeuvre modes are derived from the INTELSAT V AOCS design described in detail in reference (1) and therefore the emphasis in the paper under discussion here has been placed on those aspects, which have necessitated a modification or a different approach. Some additional features, which have not been covered in detail in the paper will be briefly adressed here to complete the picture. A series of autonomous safety measures has been implemented in the AOCS to ensure minimum possible outage times and uncritical thermal and power conditions in case of failures without necessitating ground station activities.
