The normal quality of speech received from a microphone in a diving helmet is far from acceptable for broadcasting. It is both severely distorted in terms of spectral content and, where air is supplied to the diver via a 'demand valve', the noise level from the demand valve is extremely high. This Report examines these problems and suggests ways in which they can be overcome, without losing the verisimilitude of the event.
