In the production of forged cannon tubes, it is important to control the bore concentricity of the rough forging to allow for subsequent machining to the final shape which must have a concentric bore to create the required product strength. In the case of tubes produced on a rotory forge, the production rates are as high as four per hour. To preclude producing many scrap tubes, it is necessary to measure the concentricity as soon as possible after the forging operation. An ultrasonic pulse echo thickness system has been employed to effect this measurement at temperatures up to 1100 Cel (2000 F). Siehe auch 'Ronca.
