Design verification (qualification) testing of Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) transducers is underway with satisfying results. The instrumentation of the reusable Space Shuttle presents added dimensions to existing space vehicle instrumentation technology. Endurance becomes a high priority requirement. Extended periods of sustained, high level, random vibration and rapid application of thermal shocks are generated by the SSNE. This paper discusses the methods used, successful and unsuccessful, in conducting design verification testing of platinum resistance temperature, variable inductance speed and flow transducers used on the Space Shuttle Main Engines.
