Subsea pipelines during the operation condition are often subjected to high compressive longitudinal force and internal pressure. Besides, an irregular seabed profile causes the bending moment load on the pipeline which rests on the seabed. In this paper, pipeline deformations and pipe combined stresses over depressions in the operation condition are assessed by using an analytical method. The MATLAB software is employed for these analyses. Based on different loads and span lengths, some zones are defined for pipe combined stresses. Also, the buckling critical load for pipeline over depressions is provided in this paper. Adjusting pipelay tension during installation on irregular seabeds could be a practical method for avoiding damages such as global buckling and bursting. This approach is then extended to the situation in which the pipe touches the sea floor at the middle of depressions. Subsequently, stresses can decrease and pipe can adopt the seabed profile, so span lengths can reduce.
