Although Surface Effect Ships (SES) must carry several additional costly systems compared to conventional ships, they possess advantages identifying them as potentially ideal hullforms for fast sealift applications. The details of a parametric design synthesis modeling effort to develop long-range SES capable of speeds up to 75 knots are described. The results of the parametric analysis are used to highlight the impact of mission requirements on the designs and are presented in comparison to other choices for long-range high-speed transport.
