Simulations of delamination propagation and the initiation and crushing of composite laminates are made using a finite-element crash code, LS-DYNA. Delamination growth is modelled using cohesive failure models native to LS-DYNA, and in-plane failures are made using a laminated composite failure model. Results show that it is possible to accurately simulate simple dynamic delamination propagation events. Response during laminate crushing initiation is significantly more complex. Qualitative similarity between experimental data and crushing simulations is found, though quantitative correlation remains elusive.
