In an island whose naval superiority is its pride, glory, and best defence, a representation of such scenes as tend to the honour of those gallant spirits, whose prowess has obtained, and still preserves that superiority, is a very proper subject for the pencil. Marine painting, by this means becomes, in a degree, historical and biographical, and at the same time that it commemorates our victories, it is an honourable monument to the memory of those heroes who have fallen for their country. Much of the merit of those representations depends upon the fidelity with which they are executed; and in point of accuracy, this print is, by all who have seen it, acknowledged to have every claim to praise.
