This paper develops a travelers’ route choice behavior model when using an advanced traveler information system (ATIS). The model is tested with data obtained from a computer simulation. The paper's point of departure is that immediately perceived travel time along different routes, previously gained experience, and the degree of preference when choosing a specific route are characterized by fuzziness. The travelers’ route choice behavior model thus developed is based on fuzzy logic. The results obtained using the model show exceptionally good agreement with results obtained using computer simulation.
