The design of the tunnel headroom mainly depends on the type of the overhead catenary system. Thus, it is feasible to improve the tunnel aerodynamic effect by optimizing the catenary structure in the tunnel railways. In this paper, the application of the overhead catenary conductor in China railway is investigated, as well the feasibility of the overhead catenary conductor adopted in the mountain area is analyzed. And the design requirement of the overhead catenary system against to the tunnel headroom is also studied considering the high attitude and high proportion features in Sichuan-Tibet railway. Then the investment situation and the waste slag of the different types of the overhead catenary system are investigated with the tunnel surrounding rock and the construction schemes taken into account. The results in this paper are helpful to the tunnel headroom design in Sichuan-Tibet railways.
