The marine environment is complex and changeable. The measurement information is inevitably lost owing to the complex and time-varying underwater environment. An improved variational Bayesian information filter (IVBIF) algorithm is proposed to handle with the problems of measurement loss and complex measurement noises. The proposed IVBIF, which takes advantages of variational Bayesian approach and information filter, is proved in theory and is verified by simulation experiments. Because of the characteristics of the Variational Bayesian approach, the bad influence of measurement noise can be eliminated by the IVBIF compared with traditional Kalman filter.
