Sense and avoid (SAA) systems are the prerequisites for enabling Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to integrate into national airspace systems. An important part of designing the SAA system is the configuration of sensors. As the application scenarios of UAVs become more and more widespread, it is increasingly important to design reasonable sensor configurations for different UAV platforms and flight environments. In this paper, considering the three aspects of UAV platform, flight environment and sensor attributes, we establish a sensor configuration performance evaluation model. The model analyzes the indexes that affect the effectiveness of the sensor configuration, and determines the weight of each index based on the characteristics of UAV platform and its flying environment. The potential sensor configuration is selected based on constraints such as detection distance and cost, and then the potential sensor configurations is scored on each index to select the optimal sensor configuration. This model not only can be used for the selection of sensor configurations, but also provide a reference for the development of relevant standards for SAA systems.
