An aeroelastic reduced order model for gust encounters of aircraft models is presented. The reduced order model provides aeroelastic time domain responses based on aeroelastic coupling in the frequency domain which is developed into a state space model using rational function approximation. The AIC-based aerodynamics are corrected by quasi-steady RANS solutions in order to improve the aerodynamic response in transonic flow. The correction method is based on a Taylor series expansion of the AIC matrix and allows correcting simultaneously for multiple harmonic pressure responses provided by higher-order methods. The method is presented in detail and discussed for a wing-only configuration. The reduced order model is demonstrated for gust encounters of the NASA Common Research Model in transonic flow and compared to time-linearized RANS-based aeroelastic gust responses.
