The new space economy is likely to happen much sooner than expected. The critical mass of technology, economic demand, and investor interest are pushing the industrial space growth curve steeper and steeper. It is only a matter of time before settlements and outposts—either funded by countries, companies, or private investment cartels—take shape and begin to establish a foothold for man’s permanent presence in space. There are some speed bumps that are known and probably many more that are yet to be recognized, but the momentum of investment and innovation is quickening. What remains is a magic list of the things we don’t know we don’t know. That will come in time.
