We have made an automated traffic management system to control four-lane traffic in urban areas. We have used Raspberry Pi as a central processing unit and IR sensor for collecting the data. The IR sensor collects the data regarding the traffic density, and then it sends the data to the central processing unit which on processing the data takes the decisions according to the implemented algorithm. In case of heavy traffic conditions, an auto-generated email will be sent to the nearest traffic police station through an SMTP server. The system is capable to detect emergency vehicles and act accordingly.
