In this study, the effect of adhesive thickness on the bond strength of adhesive joints was investigated. A novel method utilizing copper wires was developed to precisely control the adhesive bond thickness. Adhesive thicknesses ranging from 0.1 mm to 1 mm were examined. The study focused on single-lap joints composed of dissimilar materials: unidirectional CFRP and aluminum alloy sheets. Lap shear tests showed that an adhesive thickness of 0.4 mm resulted in the highest shear stress among the thicknesses tested. This study demonstrates that the proposed copper wire method enables accurate control of adhesive bond thickness, providing a reliable approach for optimizing joint performance.
