The automotiveAutomotivesectionMotorcycle of the museum displays a heterogeneous range of engines spanning over a century, from the 1919 FIAT type 101 engine to the modern Toyota 2ZR hybridHybrid powertrain. It encompasses various engineering solutions, materials, and construction techniques evolving from semi-artisanal to modern industrial production. The transition from carburettors to fuel injectionFuel injection systems, including electronicElectronic controls, reflects advancements aimed at enhancing engine efficiency and reducing emissions. Comparisons between displayed engines highlight many technological progresses, such as on considering the numerous differences between the 1929 8-cylinder 7.4 litres Isotta Fraschini 8A producing the same 115 hp power as the 2009 Ford 3-cylinder 1.0 litre EcoBoost. Some engines are exhibited with gearboxes, showcasing different drivetrain arrangements, from the archetypal sliding mesh gearboxGearbox up to advanced dual-split continuous variable transmissionTransmission, passing through the fine transaxle layout of the Lancia Flaminia 2500. The collection includes rare and valuable engines that of the FIAT 8V, the FIAT-Ferrari Dinos up to the modern Ferrari 430 and Lamborghini Aventador. The same section features motorcycleMotorcycleand truckTruck engines, including specimen of fine design like the Lancia-Junkers Tipo 89 and experimental prototypes.
