Abstract In the upcoming years the overall efficiency increase of powertrain architecture will play a dominant role in the commercial vehicle segment. This segment will face the stepwise optimization of the current diesel powertrain. Engine optimizations, such as downspeeding or improved turbocharger efficiency, will be accompanied by improved exhaust gas treatment systems. In addition the reduction of friction losses and the optimization of auxiliary components will contribute to reach the current discussed EPA GHG phase II proposal for 2027.
