Cyclists are vulnerable road users because they are more likely to be involved in accidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities. However, a safe environment for cyclists should be sought so that people of all ages can feel comfortable while cycling. Focusing on safety risks that cyclists may encounter while riding and informing the cyclists about them are the key to maintaining their safety, decreasing the accidents, and improving their comfort level in their trip. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to introduce the risk index formulation that can be adapted in different road areas in order to measure the degree of how safe these areas are for biking. Accordingly, this risk index can be used to develop an assistance tool to warn cyclists of a potential risk so that they can react in advance and maintain their safety.
