Multi-motor electric powertrains offer the possibility to set up the ideal drive torque distribution at the wheel in every situation. However, working out the control algorithm for this purpose is a major challenge. And this is only the first step if the final goal is to implement this control into a seriesproduction passenger car. AVL’s Torque Vectoring (TV) function family realizes a state-of-the-art vehicle motion control concept, which ensures good driving experience, but it also has to deal with classical validation steps, for example handling sudden friction value changes and avoiding unneeded stability losses, at the same time. Validated vehicle models in the AVL-VSM simulation environment shorten the development time.
