Abstract Chartering is a complex and expanding part of the business of ship management. This chapter deals primarily with the economics of chartering rather than with technicalities or charter party clauses, which are examined in Elements of Shipping. Opportunity is also taken to describe the role of the Baltic Mercantile and Shipping Exchange, the Baltic International Freight Futures Exchange, the Baltic and International Maritime Conference and Worldscale.
